Otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery is a specialty of great diversity that deals with a vast range of clinical problems in patients from all age groups. Not only do we have such diversity now but there is also increasing pressure for sub specialization, and knowledge will become compartmentalized from one specialist to another. A selection of current reviews in subjects of topical interest that reflect the diversity of the specialty has therefore been compiled within this book. It is freely acknowledged that the book was never aimed at being fully comprehensive for the specialty. However, topics included are all subjects that the busy otorhinolaryngologist is likely to see during clinical practice, but never find the time or opportunity to read a concise, up-to-date review on the subject. Many of the topics that are included reveal the close interaction with colleagues from other specialities that is necessary while dealing with certain clinical problems. Examples include the clinical management of facial pain by neurosurgeons and pain specialists, and the current management plans for both dysthyroid eye disease and migraine. It is anticipated that otolaryngologists will find these articles of great interest, enhancing the advice that they are able to give to patients.
