Health education and wellness books written for general public to educate them about major health specific topics. The news of an expectant baby is a time of rejoice and happiness in the family. There is an air of excitement and joy in the family. On arrival of the newborn, suddenly bundles of roses and sweets flow in ? the newly gifted parents are gleaming with joy but at the same time there is a sudden vacuum within them as how to now go about looking after their bundle of joy. So many questions flow in the mind and very few answers around. In our culture the elders suddenly step in with advices and suggestions which are golden traditional practices carried along for centuries. However some of these practices are not evidence based and can actually be harmful to the baby and need to be discouraged. The parents are usually caught in a web between what the elders and relatives in the family tell them versus what the health professionals say. Steeping into the minds of such parents stimulated us to try to address some of these simple issues which we thought would be helpful to first time parents. We therefore have formatted this book in a question ?answer format and have tried to use simple language aided with photographs for better understanding. We sincerely hope that our endeavor will be beneficial to such parents and help them resolve most of the common issues regarding care of their new born baby. In this book, the paediatricians have explained how to take care of the new born and addressed concerns of the parents.
